Posted By Barrie (Badger) Etter Hi With that cold stuff that's supposed to fall around Xmas I started to look for my list of legislation(s) that require us to do something in the car park to prevent injury to employees / visitors falling / slipping on snow /ice only to find it has fallen into that usual void called 'a safe place'. HASAWA and mangt regs aside is there any other pieces of legislation that require us to something about that wet stuff so I may argue with the managers there's a reason for pinching his best blokes to grit the car park?

Posted By JJF How about leaving the legislation in the draw and taking the old fashioned common sense approach that someone could slip and get injured!

Posted By Barrie (Badger) Etter Gladly, unfortunatley I have some cumudgeon managers that need bits of paper to prover the need for gritting otherwise they won't dig into their pockets for a couple bags of grit!

Posted By Phil H I suggest it comes under safe access and egress.I know of one organisation that failed to grit the pathway and paid the price both from an improvement notice and civil claim.

Posted By JJF It must be a difficult position to be in if you have to convince management to fork out a few pounds for grit.
There is always Occupiers Liability Act to quote if needs be.

All sorted for a tenners worth of grit...if only it was that simple!
Where do you store it; how do you disperse it; where do you disperse it first; who actually disperses it before others arrive on site; how are they alerted to forecasted drops in temperature, etc.- i.e. do you have a system?
