Hi Guys,

A PC has presented me with a template from Fast Plan [http://www.fastplanonline.co.uk] who have a slightly different take on CDM [http://www.fastplanonline.co.uk/fpol/about/campain/cdm2007.asp] and I am not sure what to do with this? I generally am against generics and am not sure that they are delivering the best practice message, but it seems to help PC's with their compliance.

Does anyone have an opinion on this?

My initial introduction to CDM was in 1998 when my new employer purchased similar software to formulate the CDM Plans. It was only for use by certain nominated PC users in the company but it worked.

This is similar software, and accessible through the Internet so an improvement, and I am sure it will work but would be limited as it is bound to be generic to a degree.

I would be hesitant to use it as there may be some CDM C's out there who may not accept a Plan manufacture by this type of software.

The initial price for a full Plan is reasonable but when you add up all the add ons i.e. risk assessments etc. the total cost is more than I charge for a Project Specific safety plan.

I do not recommend to not use the system but neither do I recommend such a system. (On the fence or what?)

IMO templates, examples or previously used plans are all fine as a start point. These should however to worked up to be site specific and relevant to the project.

If someone is struggling or lacks the experience of structuring such documents, then why not have a helping hand - but never submit standard "off-the-shelf" docs - these are the ones that will be thrown out / refused.

Project/site specific, relevant and appropriate, is the name of the game.
