Posted By Ray Wilkie Hello, I'm new to this but I need some advice. Does an ordinary C/B license allow you to drive any FLT or is there a weight limitation. The company I work for has just aquired a 16 ton lift FLT and our boss being the bull-headed idiot he is has said we are covered BUT he has been wrong in the past. Bearing in mind we have to drive it on the road. We know you have to have a full driving license to go on the road. Any positive input will help. Many Thanks Ray

Would your boss expect a Cessna pilot to fly a A380 without a conversion course?

Posted By Hilary Charlton I can't guarantee this, but I thought when I looked into it that the maximum weight for the standard counterbalance forklift licence was 10 tonnes. I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong but you could check with a training provider because I'm certain they will know.

Posted By The toecap I believe that counter balance is counter balance in any language. But your FLT sounds like a rough terrain which has different demands and capabilities. I would opt for more training. I have both tickets. I did the Counter balance first fro 1 week and then a further week of rough terrain. This is how it has to be otherwise an accident is on the horizon. Ask you insurer. That may help.

Posted By M J Matthews Hi
Counter balance FLT are in classification bands B1,B2 etc, your operators will need to have the relevant certificate of training, for the truck as well having to ensure the other requirements of Familiarisation and specific training, Taking the truck on public highways also cals for specific duties on your behalf, I would suggest that as the previous post you contact a good training provider and seek their advice.
