I have always been under the understanding that dumpers should not be used for towing having been informed that the tow hitch provided is there for rescue if they become stuck.
Am I correct in my understanding?

I believe that must be a misconception...Read the users manual...the one I was driving the other week, (with a water bowser on the rear), had a plate above the rear hitch denoting the safe towing weight for a two and four wheeled trailer.... however this was a four wheel drive, four wheel steer job, not your usual articulated type
