Posted By S Durkan The company(telecommunications) I work for need to use petrol generators from time to time when there are power outages.Mostly the generators are stored in our warehouses until they are needed. The warehouses hold valuable stock and some of the warehouses are are connected to buildings that house equipment that is critical to the business, ie switch rooms, head ends.To be 100 per cent safe Im going to advise that the generators should be stored outside. Can anyone give advice on this matter, or is there anyone that would be in a similar situation? Any advice would be appreciated.

Posted By Ron Hunter your 100% safe approach could well backfire when a business critical power outage occurs and the generators are seized up or water contaminated due to inappropriate outdoor storage. A few thoughts for you to ponder: Why petrol generators - why not diesel? What are the ignition sources? Do you have sprinklers? Where do you keep the fuel (if indeed you keep it)? Where and how are the generators filled? Are they stored filled, or are the reservoirs drained before storage (bearing in mind that an 'empty' tank can be a risk too - particularly with petrol
