Got a motorbike. Seems to be almost a pre requisite of being a H&S professional - does it give us a very realistic perspective on hazards and risks??

I also hill walk and rock climb, with the occasional bit of free climbing (that's with no ropes folks...), just as long as it's less than about 30' up.

I've run 30+ marathons, and am considering a 100 mile endurance race, and cycle to work through central London most mornings - and of course obey every single red light.

Most dangerous hobby though must be my own DIY....

Some very interesting hobbies, especially the Bush Craft. How does one learn about that?

I cycle, play golf and make a noise on the guitar. My wife thinks playing the guitar is very inappropriate. She claims its very irritating on the ears. I have suggested ear defenders, but she's having non of it.

She might be happier if I took up Bush Craft.

I'm involved in scouting which means playing with fires, knives, axes, saws and all manor of other potential sources of injury.

Perhaps it's because we understand risk and how to minimise it while still having fun that so many of use do 'inappropriate' hobbies

I forgot about smoking ........ We recently adopted a site wide no smoking policy , to my surprise I coped OK allday .. until I lit the first cigarette of the day in the car driving home ( being driven of course, not actually driving myself) had to stop due to the head rush.. not safe at all....
Wonder if any of the staff had been warned about that one.

Now in my sixth decade, but used to shoot (rabbits and pigeons), had a motorbike until bad spill about 15 years ago. Used to climb and sail though not at same time. Given most things up as knees too stiff but still ride horse and (more dangerous) drive her in a two wheeled cart on the roads around N. Staffs.
Also assist friend and daughter with their welsh cob stud and help to show the stallion.
Ceilidh caller (and some wedding gigs can be very risky), Oh, and knit!
Who says H&S people are boring
Cheers all, L

Hey Kite, a fellow birder! I got a hernia sitting at a computer so I know how easily its done.

Just to illustrate one of the hazardous hobbies I've already listed, I have crossed the road in Mexico City,

Blimey - husky team racing eh?

Funnily enough I've just started training my dog team to pull me over the south downs this winter.

The problem is that the scottie isn't budging and the westie has developed a limp after being pushed off the sofa.

Any advice welcomed.

Before becoming a safety advisor, I use to ride motorbikes until I smashed my ankle on one of those new look scooters.
I am also a guard on the Gloucestershire Warwickshire heritage railway. (No advertising intended moderators). Part of the duties is the safety checks ducking under the coaches making sure everything is in place, & whilst another loco is passing by on the other 4 foot. Most of the steam locos don't bother me ... except one ... Black Prince, a 9F steam loco. At ballast level it's a big b***er and it scares the willies out of me. That said, there is the bonus of cabbing a ride as guard occasionally.

I was an amateur boxer for 11 years, now ride offroad motorbikes in competition (trials & enduro) & Ski in the winter. Also had a go at stock car racing, karting, windsurfing, negotiating the old single lane A66 in 4 feet of snow (unsuccessful) and giving the wife my opinion (painful).

I play computer games :)

I run round with a rifle, sniper actually, and shoot people on-line. I'm a member of a clan (the best in the UK) www.ticlan.co.uk, I used to run it but have left the heady position as I have a wee boy now. so although my physical danger is low, I do always aim for the head shot!

Oh and I like a bit of gardening...

The Moderators have let this thread run, even though it is, strictly speaking, contrary to the Acceptable Use Guidelines. We need a bit of fun now and then

However, we feel that after almost a week it has now run its course, and we are now locking it.

And just in case you were wondering - judo, karate, tae kwondo and being a granny.
