Hi Guys,

This has probably been discussed a million times but here goes. How many CPD points do you need, under the old system it was 22 in a two year period.

Gra,
The paper-based CPD scheme, which is currently in its final cycle requires 20 points over a two year period. A point represents approximately a half day or 3-4 hours. In the new on-line system 30 credits over a three year cycle are required, although this is more of a rolling programme so the cycles are more variable, the only fixed time scale being for the development plan (3 credits over 3 years). Otherwise credits should be allocated in a similar way to previously. However, there is more flexibility and a particularly useful piece of development can be give up to three credits, irrespective of length. There are some tips given with the scheme in the MyIOSH portal.

For current MIOSH completing their paper based cycle it is necessary to send in your summary sheet now or at the very latest the end of February. This is your final chance to transfer to CMIOSH and after this the transitional arrangements will close. If you have any queries about CPD please contact cpd@iosh.co.uk or ring the CPD Helpline 0116 2573239.

Can I check something here please - in your reply you have said:
... 'Otherwise credits should be allocated in a similar way to previously.’

Under the old paper CPD system I would have received 10 - 15 points for my BOHS M102 course and probably 5 for my recent Lead Accident Investigators course.

Under this new system I can only allocate a maximum of three points for each course.

So how can you say the credits are allocated in a similar way?

Keith,

I understand that the total points allocated would be in line with the previous figures stated (i.e. 10-15 and 5 respectively).

However you can only allocate up to 3 points per module on the electronic system. You will therefore need to split the course into modules to do this.

In any case a quick call to the CPD enquiry team on 0116 257 3239 or memberservices@iosh.co.uk should be able to give you the definitive answer.

You need to think about your studies in a more staged manner. Explore the various development stages within the course and assess them for CPD individually. This removes the emphasis from just doing a course to assessing its development value for you personally.
