Crackers destined for the soldiers in Iraq and Afgahnistan have had their snaps taken out as the RAF wouldn't carry them; they are classed as explosives!

The soldiers will just have to shout BANG when they pull them.

Nothing new here! When we flew to Spain back in 2000 for the New Year celebrations the airline refused to allow us to take the crackers on board until we had removed all the snaps! How we then disposed of them is another story!!!!

Smilar story appeared in the Beano a few years ago. Soldiers were issued rifles, but due to constraints on cost and the excessive noise they produced when discharged, no bullets were issued. Instead, when the enemy approached them, the soldiers were instructed to take aim and as they pulled the trigger, shout GUN!!. The enemy would then fall to the floor, apparently dead. This worked very well until one day a lone enemy soldier approached the defensive line of the soldiers and despite many shouts of GUN, GUN, GUN, the single enemy soldier kept advancing until he reached earshot, at which point he could be heard uttering TANK, TANK, TANK.....

sorry,

should have saved it for Friday!!

My guess is the whole story isn't being told, they can't be carried on passenger and cargo aircraft, but can be carried on cargo only aircraft.

Firecrackers - celebratory crackers are classed as class 1.4G. They should be labelled "UN0353 Articles, explosive, n.o.s. FIRECRACKER"
and they should be packed according to packing instruction 101 when up to 75kg can be carried.

There may be some state variations...

So the most likely the crackers weren't properly classified and labelled - someone should have spoken to a DGSA
