Posted By Brando All,
Can some one point me in the right direction for legislation / guidance on bunds?
I know there are regulations for oil / fuel but I am also interested in what is commonly done when you have IBC containers of antifreeze and other car care related chemicals around in garages ( the IBC's i've seen are 1,000lt ).
I would bund it ( even if only on a pallet style bund )- but I need something to reference as I am sure there will be resistance as money will have to be spent!!!

Posted By TK Brando You could refer to the EA guidance. used to licence places for the storage of IBC's of chemicals. It was always an EA requirement that full IBC's were held in a bunded area or that the drainage in the yard itself was connected to large retention interceptor. You'll find relevant guidance on the attached PPG note. http://publications.envi...pdf/PMHO0204TG25-e-e.pdf

I think the use of bungs is best practice (refer to the EA's PPGs above) rather than a statutory requirement. The main legislative stick would be s85 of the Water Resources Act (causing or knowingly permitting the pollution of controlled waters). If this occured you'd be hit with a fine and costs of clean-up. Basically its a risk management issue. Of course, if the risk was significant, the EA could insist on their use through an enforcement notice.
