Posted By Rachael Palmer An organisation has a large number of volunteers who work in small groups of about 5 or 6 people. These groups go out repairing footpaths, drystone walls, carry out hedging and other maintenance etc. They are often located at least an hour or so from any form of toilet facilities. The work locations are often accessed on foot rather than using vehicles. I've looked at the HSE information sheet on the provision of welfare facilities at transient construction sites. What welfare facilities can the organisation reasonably be expected to provide given the remoteness of the locations?

Posted By Ron Hunter Rachael, you already know the answer! What is "reasonable" is that already described in the HSE publication you've already read (presumably CIS 46?). There is a lot of scope in that document, down to pre-arranged use of private toilet facilities.

Posted By Bob Youel stand in a field for a few hours whilst wanting to use the loo and then you will get a picture of what facilities are needed As you are not paying for the work to be done use some of the savings your company has made to help your volunteers e.g. hire in a 'porta loo'

Posted By Rachael Palmer Thank you to those who have responded. Will be suggesting they purchase of some form of portable loo and that they make appropriate arrangements for emptying & cleaning it. Thanks goodness that won't be my job!!

Posted By Ron Hunter Rachael, You can hire for duration of your work. I wouldn't recommend buying -too many complexities with emptying and maintenance!!!!!
