Hi, I'm after some independent advice. My wife runs one of these "Rent office space" branches. They are a major comapany so I won't mention the name. Their H&S is appalling but its the old case of not making waves. The main reason I'm writing is last week one of the companys who rent went bust and there was some violence. Given the current economic climate this is likely not to be a one off. Its not lone working but surely there should be some type of exposure to violence risk assessmet and work instruction ? The largely female staff had to lock themselves in the building for almost an hour waiting for the police !

Have a look at this HSE Guidance - states what employers 'should' be doing... http://www.hse.gov.uk/pubns/indg69.pdf

Also you could try doing a search through some nhs info - to see how they deal with V & A issues for nurses etc?

As well as risk assessing and putting good lone working/buddy procedures etc in place, the company should consider training staff in identifying and defusing escalating situations before the situation gets to a critical stage. Many organisations run these, including suzy lamplugh trust.
