Posted By John Callaghan Hi all,
I've just completed a TUC H&S corse: The TUC Certificate in Occupational Health & Safety at OCN* Level 3 which is accredited to meet the academic requirement for Safety Technician (Tech IOSH*) grade.
Could anyone advise on what my next H&S course/qualification should be? It's been suggested that I could go straight for the Nebosh Diploma Part 2 on the strength of it or for the NVQ Level 4 in Occ H&S. I'm a firefighter and will be retiring in 3 years and would then like to seek employment in H&S in the real world!
regards
John

Posted By Barrie (Badger) Etter John I would suggest an NVQ 4 Dip course. That way you can work at your own speed and have a small recovery period (if you need it) between units.

Posted By Hazel Harvey John, Either the NVQ level 4 or a NEBOSH Diploma or one of the accredited university courses would be a progression from the TUC Cert. However, as you are currently not 100% involved in OSH you may find one of the taught courses more valuable. The NVQ does assume that you already have a lot of OSH knowledge predominantly in a position where you are offering health and safety advice so it may be difficult for you to obtain this. All the available course are listed in 'about membership'.
