Posted By Antony McManus Hi, I'm currently on a project where we have an off-site laydown area. Access to this is predominately on private roads. However, we have to access public raods for approx 20m. Does anyone have any idea of the legalities involved, as not all plant is road legal, or where I may access the relevant information?
Thanks
Tony Mc

Posted By Merlin As a starting point I would suggest you talk with your local Council Highways Department, ours in Sheffield are very good and give excellent help and advice

Posted By GPS Hi there Antony,
I recently observed highways construction work with the contactors using 'unnumber plated equipment' I contacted the DVLA who were really helpful in providing me with all the information I needed. I contacted my local council highways department who had let the contract. The engineer I spoke to said he was not aware that using vehicles on the public highway needed to be plated and that he would call me back. He did and confirmed what I had been saying was correct. He said they were all licensed but that the plates were misplaced. Next day while driving past, all vehicles with gleaming new number plates. So try DVLA for guidance.
