20.—(1) The CDM co-ordinator shall—

(a) give suitable and sufficient advice and assistance to the client on undertaking the measures he needs to take to comply with these Regulations during the project (including, in particular, assisting the client in complying with regulations 9 and 16);

however in the acop page 24 108 c

They dont have to approve the principle contractors health and safety plan although they have to be able to advise on its adequacy at the start of construction.

A potential paradox?

Not for me - the CDMC is there to advise the client whether the plan is adequate to commence work. This is not an approval process and the CDMC is not empowered to disagree with the CPP content as long as it covers the stated requirements adequately. Detail belongs to the PC.

During 2007 I was asked to provide a Health and Safety Plan for a project in Ireland where the Regs are somewhat different. I consulted with the CDM-C who gave me lots of assistance in preparing the document in the correct format and with correct titles for the different duty holders.

I have just completed another and sent it via email to the same CDM-C, I hope she approves, but if not I am sure she will give further excellent advice.

This is a sign of good cooperation and working together to get the job done well.
