Posted By Antony Ferguson Does anyone have any learning from isolator failures, where the casing has exploded?

Posted By Robert. Yes. Only when the isolator has been massively underated, protective discrimination has been totally ignored---------ie, rust nail scenario, or as a result of a direct short circuit on the phases.

Posted By Johno For a 400V isolator to explode, there would have to be a very large fault current. The short circuit protection would also have to be unsuitable or faulty. Occasionally, they might fall apart when operated and short out. There is a risk of explosion should the enclosure be full of dust, from grinding for example.
Is this something which has happened?
