Posted By srd Part of our building is about to be occupied by a sister company. Who is responsible for fire extinguisher provision for their area, us, them, or both?
Stephen.

Posted By Philip Beale Are there already fire extinguishers there? at the end of the day it should be sorted out between the two companies. who is going to pay for the servicing of the fire extinguishers. I wouldn't think there is any guideline who should supply just use common sense.

Posted By pluto Generally you would both be responsible for the provision in your own area. However you could come to an agreement for one of you to do the provision and maintenance/provide training. This is especially true for 'sister' firms. In any event there is a requirement under the Fire Safety order for you to cooperate with each other. If push came to shove the Fire and Rescue Service would look for evidence as to who, (if not both of you) was responsible.

Posted By srd There are some extinguishers already in place, but there could probably do with being more.
I was wondering if there were regulations covering this that are specific to a landlord / tenant relationship?

Posted By Heather Collins It will depend entirely on how the terms of your/their lease/sub-lease is written. It is not possible to generalise in such a situation.
We have had buildings where we have had the responsibility both as landlord and tenant.
