Posted By A tech SP This morning I have phoned the CSCS card helpline on the number given on their website. I asked why there is nothing on the website about renewing your CSCS card as mine is due to expire in April. I was told I would have to book in for a H & S test as if I was applying from scratch. Is this right? Another question which I know has been answered before but I cant be bothered to trawl through past discussions is: I know the diploma counts for nothing but I thought the construction certificate allowed you to miss the multi guess test. Chappie on the phone said no or possibly the computer said it! My streetworks card is also due for renewal this year is that going to be the same? Thanks

Posted By Bryan Goldsmith 16052 I believe the Touch Screen H&S Test does have a 2 year shelf life linked to the card renewal date. As for the Street Works card, I know there has been recent motions to introduce some form of 'CPD' but as far as I am aware all you need do at the moment is send of your photo and cheque with the completed form to the Street Works Register and you will get your new card. Valid for 5 years and you don't even have to prove that you have been on the street since passing your units. CSCS is now linked in general to your 'trade/NVQ qualifications'.

Posted By Michael Battman I was sent a reminder about 2-months before the card expired. (Make sure they have your current address) I booked a test on-line; details of result were sent off and I had my new card within days.

Posted By teaboy hi what category of card are you trying to renew? construction skills normally send renewal paperwork out in good time but the card system has changed since you last applied. the construction certificate is no longer an exemption to the test. if you want to email me directly i'll try to help you out, i deal with this almost daily teaboy

Posted By A tech SP Thanks tea boy, it is the H & S Manager card, (platinum?), It seems like man on telephone was correct and the test has to be taken, I dont mind doing it but as with others on this forum, it does appear to waste your time and take a few quid out of your wallet. I didnt realise they send a reminder out to you so will see if it comes in the next month.

Posted By graeme12345 it's called "Rules and regulations" And those that instigated it then control it, and can do what they want. There is another recent thread on this site which will be talked about in the same way a year from now. Personnally I believe it is an afront to a persons credibility to enforce them to take an "hazard/safety test when they acheived a level way above the actual test itself, this also has that negative effect that we all talk about "others perception of H & S"

Posted By Michael Battman It may well be an affront to some IOSH members ability and qualifications; but one attribute of competency is 'currency', ie the candidate didn't acquire the qualification 15-years ago. So, just like First Aid cards expire, so do the CSCS cards.
