If there is anyone involved in this field I would appreciate some information on setting this up, of particular interest - safety boilers as a pressure vessel, protecting the public from any related risk and staff operating it. I have the ACoP from the National Traction Engine Trust, but practical experience would be extremely helpful.

The boiler would need certification just the same as any other pressure vessel - as the late Mr Dibnah showed on his final series when visited by The Man From The Ministry.

Try contacting the organisers of the Great Dorset Steam Fair, held every year at the end of August / beginning of September at Tarrant Hinton nr Blandford Forum. I'm sure if they can't help they will know someone who can.

There's a few companies specialise in the sort of inspection and insurance for Heritage steam boilers, if you drop me an e-mail I'll see what I can do for addresses/company names (I have no commercial interest but am involved in Heritage Rail sector complete with steam locos).

Staff- will need training especially in respect of how to manage a steam boiler if never used them before. Usual stuff like lighting up properly, proving the gauge glass and checking water level is sufficient before lighting up and then prove glass again once in steam- knowing the correct way to prove a glass at that; check the firebox before you light up (stays, fusible plug etc), prove valves lift at correct pressure and prove both injectors (or other water into boiler device I am assuming live steam injectors) as soon as have enough steam pressure and so on. We find with our volunteer staff most need a few lessons in how to handle a coal fire too.

Lubrication- think issue of making sure the vehicle doesn't move when oiling around motion, the nasty effect on skin of some compounded oils and so on (our guys have nitrile gloves issued). Parking- don't leave the cab without handbrake on and in neutral esp if people about.

That's just a few thoughts off the top of my head in relation to general use of Heritage steam boilers. If you want more please feel free to contact me.
