Now for me this was a big issue when I came across this instance in my workplace.
Two ambulance stations (entrance doors) that were padlocked from the inside but had break glass systems, again only on the inside though, no use if nobody is there when the ambulance arrives though?
Also has anybody come across and break glass units for locking doors...that dont use glass...strange comment I know but I ask for cotamination purposes...
Thoughts on this?

Yes. We have these fitted on all our facilities emergency door release boxes for all security doors, which have a plastic center that bends in to activate. Which are then reset with a key afterwards.
Hope that helps

I'm completely confused by this one! What do you mean with an ambulance bay being locked? What does the term ambulance bay mean? Is it a parking place for ambulances only? If sohow isitlocked? In my mind an ambulance is a road vehicle so why have a bay youlock? Can you please expalin your concern a bit differently?

Bob,
Our factory is a secure site for hygiene reasons. An ambulance bay is a bay where an ambulance can be reversed and ambulance staff/paramedics can gain access. Like a loading bay.
Security can guide the ambulance to the bay although the local ambulance base know of our site and the plan.
My issue was if nobody was inside to 'break the glass' to get the bay door open, then a major issue would arise.

Regardless of the type of mechanism concerned, I would think that a vital part of this scenario is the specific allocation of responsibility to identified individuals to go and unlock the doors in the event of an accident requiring ambulance attendance. This should be covered under your emergency planning and risk assessments.
