Posted By Cas Hi all
Anyone like to offer advice on what to cover in a toolbox talk (with demonstrations)on manual handling, to some young lads we have working in our steel yard.
Thanks

Posted By Konstanty Budkiewicz Cas, You asked what should be covered in a tool box talk for manual handling operations. Given that you are dealing with young persons with little understanding of the law and of goods handling, I suggest that formal documented training would be more appropriate at this stage of their career. The following link provides an overview of the subject; http://www.hse.gov.uk/msd/mac/index.htmRegards Kon CMIOSH

Posted By Roy Dalby Hello Cas,
I have to agree that you should be providing a training programme for the young workers (and any other staff conducting manual handling tasks). If they have already been trained and you are looking to a tool box talk as a refresher consider the below mnemonics
2A & 3P - Avoid, Assess, Plan, Prepare, Perform FIND TIME - Frequency of task, Intensity of task, number of staff, Duration of task and time allowed. STOW - Static position, Twisting/bending, Over reaching and working stooped. SHIP - Sudden unexpected movements, Heavy Loads,Individual susceptibility and Physosocial aspects TILE - Task, Individual, Load and Environment.
