Posted By Carl West Hi All,
Does anyone have any experince in assessing welding fumes in an engineering factory
I have seen some asssessments online by which you enter the components from the welding fumes and it advises you on what precautions to take.
Also, does anyone know any company or organisation in the Sheffield region that can test the welding fumes content.
I heared that you can take test pieces to find the content to Labs where you pay a nominal fee...
Basically, any had any experiences with this before and what did you do?
Many thanks
Carl West

Posted By Clare Gabriel I have in my career had extensive experience of measuring welding fume -or to be more correct getting welding fume measured. Depending on the material you are welding and the level of breakdown of constituent parts you need - it can be as easy or as difficult as you want!! As Paul has said get hold of a good OH practitioner and you can also contact 'The Welding Institute' who I used a few years ago. http://www.twi.co.uk/j32k/They were hugely helpful when the union at the factory I was working wanted a very extensive breakdown of the constituent so of our weld fume.
