Posted By Steve Cartwright Sian They will want to see copies of risk assessments relating to all the issues you have mentioned. Any training records, especially of managers, have they had any training on how to recognise symptoms of stress. Manual handling training records and who carried out training. As for workplace transport. Do you have FLT's in operation. If so they will want to see training records of all FLT Operators who trained them, maintenance/inspection records for FLT's. Also have you got the correct signage in place relating to pedestrians and vehicle traffic. Have you got designated pedestrian routes etc. Steve

Posted By CFT They are also making random calls around the country using an agent for stress and trips and slips. Prior to arrival if you are not confident have a consultant in these matters come in for a half/full day (depends how big you are) he/she will look around, talk to a few members of staff, look at the general ergonomics of the building, and make recommendations; if you explain that you are not sufficiently competent to interpret some of his/her report, the consultant will make it easy for you, (well most of us would at any rate) Think carefully what is being said and by all means come back here to shoot the breeze some, do the recommended tasks (with help if needs be) then stand back and give yourself a wee pat on the back and smile; then the day arrives, meet said inspector/s and make them welcome and ask what they would like to do and where they would like to go and what they would wish to see, make certain all the very basics are in place; H&S law poster (filled in), H&S Policy stement with supporting sections (see HSWA sect 2 sub 3) EL insurance cert (correct dates and cover) first aid box, accident book (ensuring that there are no completed entries in the book and you have filed them securely (DPA issue)Risk Assessments as stated earlier by another response) [Reg 3 MHSWR] etc etc etc, then be positive to the Inspector and try to be confident; do not panic, the Inspector will not use a level of terminology that is completely alien to you and if they do as them to explain in layman's terms. The consultant will have advised you to remove the kettle balancing on the water cooler and take out the 49 plugs in an adaptor and plugged into an extension lead, draped over the floor etc etc (I jest in the main, but he/she will find plenty) There is a lot more but that's the very basics, so nothing to worry about and be positive about the entire process and move forward from it! All the best CFT
