I have been asked to do a RA and procedure for clearing up after light bulb breakages (flourescent and low energy type that may contain mercury). Does anyone have any links to information/guidance/procedures that may be readily available or useful. Information from the manufacturers seems somewhat lacking. Thanks in advance.

Well i would write a procedure rather than do an RA.The folowing is from a government statement.
'The instructions are that the cleaning operative, using protective gloves and wearing a mask, should collect the main fragments of the light bulb and carefully place them in a sturdy box," Mr Harvey wrote.
"All splinters should then be collected using stiff card or paper.
"The area should then be cleaned using a damp cloth. The splinters and the cloth should then be placed in the box.
"Once the area is clear and clean, the box should be sealed and labelled with details of the item.
"The box should then be taken to the waste removal area in the loading bay and passed to the waste disposal contractor in an appropriate manner."

The only thing to add is that after you have cleaned up all you can, vacuum the area and then air the room.
Don't vacuum in the first instance, since you will scatter the contents around.

Where did you find this statement? i would be most interested in knowing the context in which this statement was made as it does seem odd that a Government official would spontaniously start releasing statements on the cleaning up of broken light bulbs that contain mercury and it is something that interests me as well as the original poster but the information out there is very vague on this exact scenario.
