Afternoon all,
Just a quick question
Anyone know what standard (BS) Final exit fire doors and internal fire doors should be made to?
Cheers

Steve,
Search BSI-Global, this will give all standards from doors, seals, hardware etc.

Steve - did you mean the construction of the actual door or the mechanism of the door?

Try BS 5499: Part 1 for external doors, BS 476 part 22 for 30 and 60 minute internals;British Standard BS EN 1634-1,try also,
British Standard BS 476-22. Fire tests on building materials and structures. Part 22: Methods for Determination of the Fire Resistance of Non-Load Bearing Elements of Construction. British Standards Institution,& BS EN 1634-1.
British Standard EN 179 refers to the hardware on final exits as does British Standard EN 1125. I'm not guaranteeing there are no recent 'en' updates as this is from existing information I have and I don't have time to cross reference right now.
Hope this helps?

If you already hold a fire certificate, then the law may require that you notify the local fire authority before making any changes to your fire precautions, that affect your terms and conditions. In any case you will find the fire authority helpful on this subject.

I might be wrong but BS 5499-1 is for fire safety signage?

Highly unlikely as the certificate became redundant in October 2006 due to the introduction of the RRFSO.

You are indeed quite correct; but then I was just throwing that one in as a loss leader to see if everyone was awake! (Thats my excuse and I'm sticking to it!)
