Posted By steven n I don't work in a care environment but my fiancee works in a residential home where there is an 'intermediate care'lounge where 2 members of staff have to care for 14 service users, is this an acceptable ratio?

Posted By water67. All care homes have to be registered with the appropriate body.. LA, care comission etc. Staffing levels will be part of theregistration. Thus may wish to try that route for info.

Posted By Ali You could do no worse than look in HSG 220 "H&S in care homes". I think ratios may be more in line with nurseries, but I might be wrong !

Posted By Fornhelper Hi Steven The ratio of staff to clients will be determined by a 'needs based assessment' depending on the nature and requirements of clients. To be licensed in Scotland- and I assume England & Wales are similar - Care Homes need to satisfy the Care Commission that staffing levels will allow an acceptable standard of care to be provided for clients. So I suppose there is no definitive answer but if any concerns thay should be raised with the Care Commission - or ask the care home concerned if it would be possible to view their license / registration. For info the Care Commission are happy for our Residential Care homes to have 2 night-shift staff for 30 sleeping clients FH
