Posted By Sean G Gilgallon Hi My company is considering branching out into pet crematoriums and apart from all the standard H&S stuff is there anything concerning that environment maybe due to the high temp the furnace will reach that has special regs? I guess there will be lots of environmental issues too I have googled and looked at the HSE site but to no avail on the H&S side.

Posted By Ian Blenkharn Sean Can't imagine you will deal with many carcasses having a mouthful of mercury amalgam fillings (!), but the incineration process itself creates issues with NOx and SOx, hydrogen chloride and particulates for which you will need specialist support, most probably obtainable though the incinerator/cremator manufacturer. You need to consider also the issues of odour, and biological safety of transport, storage and handling of carcasses, that will be particularly complex if you expand to take abattoir wastes or fallen stock. Posted By Sean G Gilgallon Thanks Sharon and Ian, Our company will only be dealing with our own cadavers from our small animal practices and across the country and our equine centre and believe me that will be enough! we have no intentions of getting involved with farms or abattoirs. It is a financial issue really, as it costs us a lot to use the services of another waste contractor and cremetorium, so we thought we would do it ourselves, so to speak. I know I will have to read up on the environmental side, but I did not want to go on a site visit and miss something on the H&S side that might cost us in the future.
