Posted By Sharon Drew My organisation occupies floors 10-20 in a high rise office block. Currently staff with mobility impairments evacuate via a fire fighters lift. Should the lift fail PEPs are in place which record how staff will make their way to ultimate safety. No one has said they would be unable to make their own way out of the building. We do not, at the moment, employ any staff in wheelchairs. We occasionally have visitors into the office. Should one of our visitors be in a wheelchair should we have an evacuation plan in place? What would other members do in this scenario? would an evac chair be the best option or would this not be suitable given the height of the building and the potential for manual handling injuries.

Posted By Ali We have an Evac+ chair to assist our wheelchair-bound worker to safety should there be an emergency. To enable this we have a "buddy" system. The chair folds flat and is stored safely on the landing.
