Posted By Tony abc jprhdnMurphy It doesnt say in the regulations that your location is part of any criteria. PAT testing should only be carried out after a risk assessment has identified the need...typically this will involve the useage, age, purpose and rating of equipment, the environment and the amount of people involved. It also depends on the type of equipment to be used. An office, for example, would normally need visual inspections at regular intervals whereas anything more complex(construction site)may require regular testing.

Posted By Ann Guerrini Hi Tony, Thank you for your quick response and advice. It is a retail shop, I have advised them to carry out visual inspections on a regular basis but to have PAT testing carried out every 2 years. Many thanks Ann

Posted By Colin Myers Hi Ann, I head the Health and Safety Inspectorate in Jersey. The Island constitutional position has resulted in the Island's Government, the States of Jersey, having the responsibility for forming and administering legislation, including health and safety legislation, within the Island. The Safeguarding of Workers (Electricity at Work (Jersey) Regulations, 1983 includes goal setting requirements for the safety of electrical equipment. As far as PAT testing is concerned, I would suggest that, in determining the requirement to carry out PAT testing, you refer to manufacturers' information, recognised standards and authoritative guidance - the UK HSE have published some very useful guidance on maintaining electrical equipment with is available on their website. Our own website www.gov.je/hsi provides information on health and safety in Jersey, with the full text of health and safety legislation available on the Jersey Legal Information Board website, www.jerseylaw.je The Inspectorate can be contacted by email direct on hsi@gov.je Hope this is of help Colin
