Posted By Inch Our Authority has just issued the results of the job evaluation resulting in significant pay reductions for all the health and safety officers in the department. The officers affected carry out both health and safety enforcement and act as health and safety advisors to the Council. Obviously the appeals have been lodged but we now need evidence to support the appeals. I would be interested to speak to fellow safety practitioners who have gone through this process and would be willing to share their experiences. Inch

Posted By Robert K Lewis Sounds like the equal pay issue is at the back of this! But perhaps I am just too cynical on a Friday afternoon. If it is then you are going to get very little union assistance I am afraid. My experience is that without Union support you will stand very little chance of a change of heart. Bob

Posted By Tim Inch, We haven't had our results yet, anything you could pass on about your experience would be appreciated. It sounds like they are getting two for one anyway, with you doing enforcement as well.

Posted By Jane Ling Hi Inch, No useful advice I'm afraid, only sympathy. Went through a similar process myself with a housing associaton a couple of years ago, my job was re-evaluated to a lesser grade. I'm afraid the union wasn't interested and the appeal failed. Apparently we don't need to use initiative because we can rely on legislation. I think when they have made up their minds that is it, although one or two other people in other jobs did succeed. The good news is that it was an incentive for me, after 12 years, to move jobs and I am now enjoying lots of new challenges for better rewards.
