Posted By chris Woodward Does any one know of any regulations of guidance that give detailed requirements on the visibility and brightness of warning beacons fitted to vehicles in ports on distribution sites. we are currently having a disagreement with one of our customers and need to be sure where i stand before i go back to them any help would be very very good

Posted By MP Grayson Seven years ago I used to work at an airport and I had one of them there "Kojak style" beacons. The type that has a magnet and scratches your roof. Except mine was amber and Kojak's was red. It still scratched me roof though. Anyway, I remember a British Standard being quoted by air traffic control when I bought one. Something at the back of my mind says that it was to do with the direction of the beam. 90deg to the vehicle and not all over the place (especially not straight up). That was I believe to avoid blinding the pilots. Sorry I can't remember any more. I have slept since then. (You did say anything may help). I'll get my coat and crack on.

Posted By Steve Hayden I know this may not be totally relevant but the DfT traffic signs manual Chapter 8 part 2 (operations) has this to say: O5.3.2 Warning beacons must comply with the requirements of the Road Vehicle Lighting Regulations and should also comply with the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) Regulation 65 on Special Warning Lamps. O5.3.3 If the main beacon is likely to be obscured from the rear by parts of the vehicle or any equipment carried on the vehicle, additional beacons should be fitted toward the rear of the vehicle where they will remain visible. I realise your issue isn't on the road, but I think the priciples are sound.
