Posted By AGPetrie Hi All, I've had a heads up that at a meeting in the near future there is going to be an issue raised with respect to the refurbishment of a staff common room into a Costa coffee (higher education) and the resultant loss of taps for filling kettles, etc. Workplace health, safety and welfare state that "wholesome drinking water shall be provided .. readily accessible at suitable places". What would be expected as "readily accessible"? Thanks Allan

Posted By Mitch If they are going to lose the taps they will not be readily accessible! What are the alternatives? Begs the question why go to the expense of a refurb' if they are still going to be filling kettles?

Posted By Tabs How long is a piece of string? ... I would suggest that one shouldn't need to change floors, or walk more than a few hundred metres - but there is no prescriptive legislation that I recall. Avoid forcing people to use lifts, stairs, and escalators. These are typical spill and trip features ... as are heavy doors and doors with access controls. If you don't want to pipe new outlets, consider water fountains.

Posted By Alan Nicholls We have in our workplace the same style of eating and drinking establishment. It is equipped with cold water dispenser and hot water dispenser for HOT drinks, no kettles required. The drink vending machines on the workshop floor also dispense hot and cold water along with the other drinks. If the refurb goes this route no problems complying with the regs. Regards Alan N

Posted By CFT Yes indeed, can't they just plumb in a couple of 15mm tees to H&C and run it somewhere else with a small sink? Huge project management issue though:-) CFT
