Dear All,
An operator has informed us that she is pregnant. I am going to carry out a risk assessment is there any particular areas or advice anyone can give me in relation to carrying out this risk assessment?
Any advice will be welcomed.
Lisa.

Pregnancy is not a hazard Lisa. What will you be assessing?
More appropriate perhaps to review existing risk assessments and agree (on a trimester basis as a minimum, and more frequently if specific medical problems are encountered during the pregnancy)any required modifications to the the individual's work patterns and activities, looking beyond the delivery of the child too.
Too late for COSHH though - those assessments should take account of risks arising to women of child bearing age. The foetus is most at risk in the very early stages after conception - when the pregnancy is yet to be discovered.

That would depend entirely upon the environment that the pregnant employee is working in I would suggest.

Lisa,
To start you off:-
Working hours, workstation (DSE Equipment), manual handling, prolonged periods of standing, extremes of temperatures, exposure to smells & odours, fatigue, travelling, medical conditions & anything relevant to your particular undertaking.

Lisa,
I have e-mailed you sample risk assessments plus other info.
Ron is right when he states that your COSHH assessments should take into account the unborn child as well as the new/expectant mother.
regards
LJ
