Posted By David Whaley I am faced with a quandary of how best to be able to demonstrate the competence of our electric tug truck drivers. I cannot find any specific guidance on this, other than they should be competent. How do other users manage this? Do they use external training providers or do they train in-house and if so how do show internal trainers competence? I appreciate we still have to provide adequate supervision, it's finding the best way to prove competency. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks David

Posted By Glyn Atkinson Our truck provider externally trained up an in house tester and trainer, providing training materials and course information on re-charging requirements and safety aspects to give out to drivers. That person then trains all new and refreshed drivers in house. We provide an internal training certificate with the external trainer's details on it. No one on our sites are allowed to drive electric buggies, milk float type vehicles or similar without competnece and familiarisation training - refreshed every three years. (They also have to undergo an eyesight test through our Occ. Health for driving needs prior to use of the vehicle for spacial awareness requirements)

Posted By John Knowles Hi David ITSSAR is an accredited body that provide testing standards for tow tractors. You can have your own people do an in-house instructor course or bring it in from the outside. Hope this helps you, I have taught tow trucks to the ITSSAR standards and found them to be good. Regards John
