Posted By JLawlor Hi All If a company imports a chemical (approx 30 litres per annum) from the US and uses it only internally does the company have to register that chemical under the REACH regulation The chemical is not purchased from a supplier as such in the US but from a sister company that has nothing to do with the production or sale of chemicals Thanks

Posted By Paul Leadbetter J REACH is very complicated but you are an importer (into the EU) and may have duties under it; see here - http://www.hse.gov.uk/reach/role.htm. Paul

Posted By Chris Packham As Paul says, REACH is extremely complicated and almost certainly will be substantially modified as implementation takes place. In theory, if you import less than 1 tonne per annum into the EU you will not need to register. However, you may find that other importers import more substantial quantities and, as a result, will be registering the particular substance. If you suspect that others might be importing larger amounts and thus now pre-registering then it might pay you to pre-register yourself. At least then you will be in the SIEF (Substance Information Exchange Forum) and know what is going on. Chris

Posted By Paul L Williams We had an issue with material imported into the UK from South Korea. I found that the HSE were very helpful in clarifying a number of issues I had. You can send them an email with any REACH questions you are unsure about. The email address is below. UKREACHCA@hse.gsi.gov.uk Regards Paul
