Would members say there is any benefit in joining the Institute of Fire Engineers - IFE ?
Is it a competency issue?
Would clients rewcognise it?

It depends it would only be of benefit if you are eligible to join at Grad or Member level otherwise you would be required to join as a student member and progress to Grad/Member by examination.
In my opinion, membership is one method of demonstrating competence in the subject of fire safety.
Unfortunately, it is something frequently overlooked or undervalued by prospective employers.

I was a Grad, IFE many years ago after I left the fire brigade but now believe membership of IOSH alone is all that I need. (I do fire risk assessments as well as other H & S work).
I don't think people look for membership of IFE as a pre qualification but are impressed when they see the letters on a business card.

Also TIFE (technician) grade.
like many of these bodies, what you get out is often a case of what you put in.
