Anyone know if there is any evidence that flat screens give off less heat than CRT monitors.
I gather they use less energy. I'm thinking energy will equate to heat too.
I'm looking to push their case as one of many other measures to help reduce heat in an office. You'll guess I'm expecting a hot summer
Thanks. Thomas

My lovely widescreen flatscreen monitor did not keep me warm during the few cold days this winter and I had to turn on the radiator; my old CRT monitor pumped out loads of heat.
On the few cold days I probably used more energy than previously but overall a great improvement all round.
Not academically sound I know, but evidence nevertheless.

I find my lovely new flat screen harder to read than my huge old CRT monitor - the text just doesn't seem as sharp or something. Have played with the settings to no effect.
And no, there is nothing wrong with my eyesight, I had it checked!

I suggest that there may be something wrong with your new flat screen.
Having discussed this some time ago with an eye specialist his comment was that the LCD type flat screen was actually much better for the eyes. Very basically CRT is a series of lines moving down the screen, but at a rate that the human eye does not detect this and sees just a picture. However, at one level the eyes are subject to the flicker and this can cause strain. Incidentally, it is a similar effect with fluorescent light. The flat screen is a more stable picture which he told me causes less eye strain for his patients.
