Posted By Jean Yet again we hear of attacks on NHS staff I thought I would share the following with you Within the trust I was employed as a Risk Manager. A Regional Security Management Specialist, met with the Director responsible for security and the managing of issues including violence and conflict in the PCT. She repeatedly told the story in front of other Directors and PCTs of how he fell asleep during her one to one meeting with him. She counted to 8 before he woke up. She stated that in the time she had counted to 8, she could have walked to her car and he wouldn't have noticed. The training provided was often delivered by office staff who had no experience of addressing violence in the workplace, A PC crashing doesn't count. They were provided with training. Any challenges or questioning to her was deemed to be conflict in nature. As a result one senior manager told her staff in front of others. You have to attend the training, its, rubbish, but we have to tick the list. She herself, had been critical of the training in her evaluation, and had found herself hauled before her manager. There are so many issues relating to this subject, that I would caution anyone interpreting the statistics as to what these figures represent. I await the backlash.
