Are you talking about a listed building as a Workplace (working in), or alterations to one (working on).

For the latter english heritage can advise.

For the former, you might want to be more specific about the issue.

Heritage must obey the law as, in my experience, they regularly need reminding so be aware of the issue

This website has good articles on working on Historic buildings e,g, fire protection, scaffolding, temporary works,
http://www.buildingconservation.com/articles.htm

There is a downloadable pdf from Chiltern Fire called Historic Buildings and Fire Safety at: http://www.chilternfire...._AND_FIRE_SAFETY_web.pdf

The Defence Estates publish a document on health and safety - Historic Buildings Factsheet T 9.01 Health and safety issues (1997) which gives advice on resolving the conflict between the form of an historic building and the requirements of health and safety legislation, including safe access for the purposes of maintenance and repair.

As far as I know, this is only available via the CIS/IHS/Technical Indexes online reference system, but you might be able to ask the Defence Estates for a copy – there is a contact number on their Historic Buildings website: http://www.defence-estat...oric_buildings/index.htm

hope this helps

Della
