Posted By philip burke I wonder if anyone can tell me in lay terms, what constitutes formal inspection/testing of an industrial property's fixed electrical system by a competent person and the frequency requirements too.

Posted By Roger White Basically a competent person = an electrician who has been trained to work on the highest voltage that you have on site. Frequency depends on the type of installation but is likely to be every 3 years. Once you have your electrician they should be able to explain the IEEE Regs in laymans terms.

Posted By Alan Hoskins Philip,
The required tests are described in BS 7671 (IEEE Wiring Regs) 2008.
As Roger has mentioned, an electrical test company would be able to explain these to you.

Posted By Robert. Testing is one thing but not all electricians have the authority to issue test certificates. These should be countersigned as authorised by a trained "testing officer" and the records (I think) kept in triplicate form and are uniquely numbered.
