Posted By Alan E McKerns It's not for me its for an employee. He has over 30yrs site experience on the tools (joiner) and is now looking at Asbestos management.

Posted By Haggis JM 405/406 required for Asbestos management, can't remember which one (I've been out of the game for a couple of years now!)
Would definately recommend 402 for anyone doing surveys.

Posted By nattasha freeman Yes the P402 is the certification you need but also you need to check with your insurers as this is deemed to be a high risk activity. I have a P402 but our insurers will not insure me to label identified asbestos

Just curious, did they say what you would require?
Thanks

Posted By Ron Hunter I would suggest a competent surveyor would need to demonstrate an in-depth knowledge and understanding of MDHS100 and HSG248, beyond the basics of what P402 delivers?

Posted By Dave Wilson Like everything mate there is NO SPECIFIC legal requirement to have p402 or any other qualification to undertake asbestos surveys, however this is the base line which the industry would expect.

Posted By T Birchall RSPH do the Certificate in Asbestos Procedures. You may also find the NIACS web site useful (see www.niacs.org.uk). BOHS, who provide the P402 are not the only training providers of these courses, the P402 is a very basic course.

Posted By Dave Wilson All these course are very basic.
If they work for a larger organsiation I would expect them to hold UKAS Accreditation and for smaller companies / organisations/ one man bands the NIACS scheme or the ABICS.
