Hi,

Anyone from an electricity supply company, or know someone from one?

We foresee a need to disable equipment which is illegally connected to an inaccessible [to us] mains supply. To do the work safely, we would need the electricity supply company to isolate the supply. If it arises, this work would be at short notice [hours].

Any thoughts about contacts?

Alison

Depends on the area if you do a quick google search will tell you (usually the pre privatisation company i.e yorkshire elec norhtern elec united utilities etc)

Find the distribution company phone their rapid response number and they usually get there within 2 hours.

Alison,

As above, a quick google should give you the local network operator (which is different to who may be supplying (i.e. billing) the premisis). They will then have a general enquiries number.

Getting them to come out and disconnect the supply may be more difficult however. Without knowing the exact circumstance it's hard to say, but legally they may not be able to disconnect the supply. For instance they can not disconnect a supply to house which people are 'squatting' in if they are paying the bills.

I would suggest, if it is a safety risk then phone them ASAP and they will respond quickly, otherwise you may need to clarify the legal position.

Hope this helps.
