Posted By Raymond Rapp Not quite Friday yet I know...but reading April's SHP (p8) I was rather surprised at the Lord's judgment concerning an ex employee who committed suicide following a serious accident at work. The widow claimed for not only the injury but also the subsequent suicide of her husband. The Lords found in favour of the claimant.
A tragic incident I agree, however, I wonder what repercussions this might have not just on accidents at work, but also redundancy, dismissal and so on. How can a company mitigate against a former employee taking such action? Bearing in mind that once an employee has left the services of the company there is normally no other contact and sometimes for good reason.
Interested in your thoughts.
