Can anyone tell me the procedure that the client has to follow to appoint a new CDM
coordinator and principle contractor.
Is it simply a new F10 with updated details?

Reading between the lines is this an existing project that you wish to terminate the current appointments and start afresh?

Firstly no one but me changes my principles - not even a contractor. We have PRINCIPAL contractors though.

In general terms yes the new CDMC will have to notify the changes however unless the change or termination of appointment matter was dealt with under terms of contract or engagement the client will have to agree an amicable change with the affected parties. If either or both have a signed engagement letter, contract or letter of intent they may well seek the relevant compensation for determination of their contract/engagement.

Hope you have good reasons or are persuasive!

Thanks for the info Bob,

Actually its the principle contractor who does not want to be held responsible for managing the H&S on the site.

Your info is still valid I believe as the contract will be reciprocal with duty owed on both sides

It is entirely up to the client as it is his appointment and he can turn the tables on the PC if the contract clearly places the contractor in control of the site ie it is the main contract tender. The problem is hopwever is who will do it if they have not tendered to do the role.

You can get the contractor to leave altogether and get him to pay for someone else to do the work and defray the costs involved in doing so. Having said that though a quick question for the client is "did you appoint a competent principal contractor?" I think the answer might be a negative.

Of course you can change the PC/CDMC/Designer and yes an F10 update is required.

The PC always has primary control of the construction stage Health and Safety issues.
