Posted By Mitch I'm not hijacking Mikes thread bu I would like clarification on a similar theme for m'learned friends.
Our (UK BASED) Managing Director retired yesterday and a new (US based) Managing Director (CEO!!!) has been appointed. He is planning to visit every 6 weeks or so. On site daily we have a Tech', Sales and Finance Directors, as H&S 'advisor' I answer to the Technical Director, questions,
A) Who should now sign the H&S policy document?
B)Specifically where in legislation does it make this a requirement?
C)Specifically where in legislation does it assign responsibility to sign?
My head is spinning from reading all the legislation but perhaps I cannot see the wood for the trees. I have been asked for clarification and my understanding is that there is no specific requirement????
Thanking you in anticipation
Mitch.
PS be kind!!

Posted By Andrew M The person signing the policy statement should be the person designated in the safety policy -usually the CEO/Owner or the person where the bucks stop.

Posted By Jay Joshi It appears that yours is a multinational company company.
Even if the US based CEO signs the policy, your "organisation" for safety should ideally indicate who is the UK based director who has specific H & S reponsililities for the UK operation.
Sometimes, there appears to be too much emphasis on who signs rather than the practical organisation & Arrangements to inplement the policy!

Posted By Mitch Jay,
That's where I am coming from my suggestion is Tech Dir' and Man' Dir' jointly sign (hopefully demonstrates commitment from the top!) and the organisational chart and arrangements are altered to show responsibility is with Tech' Dir'
