Hi all,
brand new to this forum, and I am sure a few of you will look at the title and exclaim 'Not that Old Chestnut Again". Anyway I am in the middle of an I-Diploma (NEBOSH), and have requested my service provider to change the course to an NVQ L5. They have agreed due to my circumstances (greatly increased workload), but I can not find any blurb on the L5. My question is this, what does it provide in addition to the L4?

Hiya

Yes it does exsist, though not many providers offer it. It is about directing safely and evidence requirements cover budgeting, training requirements, people management etc. It is not a H&S practitioners qualification more an office (directorial) based one. To that end it will get you 20 CPD points, but is not accepted by IOSH as a route to chartered membership.

Saying that the CIOB are said to accept it as part of their membership process, which in turn - if you can prove your level 5 was taken in a CDM envrionment, the APS may also accept it too..

The level 5 does have some of the level 4 units within its criteria.

Give me a shout and I'll be happy to send you some info on its contents.

Regards

Linda

What is the criteria for CPD points? How are they calculated against courses and do they accumulate or expire after a certain amount of time?

Cheers

A bit off topic; CPD credits are awarded on the basis of what they mean to you! They are live throughout the cycle.

Stewie,
The NVQ level 5 is accepted by IOSH as a cognate qualification for membership at Graduate level. In effect this means that you have to undertake and Open Assessment (OA) and a Skills Development Portfolio (SDP) prior to your interview as part of your Initial Professional Development (IPD) programme to get to Chartered Membership of IOSH (CMIOSH). If you choose either an accredited taught qualification or an NVQ 4 in OSH practice you will only have to undertake either the SDP or OA rather than both.
So if you are wanting to undertake an NVQ, it would be better to do the level 4 as you will have less parts to complete once you have your qualification.

As for CPD points, these no longer exist as they have been replaced by a new system for CPD. There is no specific allocation of credits for any activity, so the development of an NVQ portfolio could be 20 credits overall but most likely it will be an accumulation of shorter activities leading to the qualification that you would record. My guess is that this would amount to at least 60!
