Could anyone tell me the full criteria under OSHA for recordable incidents? I have tried accessing the OSHA website but cannot find the true definition. I was initially led to believe that the recordable incident rate was to include everything from illness, medical treatment, restriction of work etc and to also include ALL first aid incidents. However I have since been told by a client that my figures should not include minor incidents such as first aid, ie cuts, bumps and bruises. Can anyone clear this up for me????

John,
Go back to the OSHA website and do a search for "OSHA Form 300". One of your search results should bring up a pdf document entitled "OSHA forms for recording work-related injuries and illnesses".
If that doesn't work you can try emailing me.

John
Minor injuries that require only first aid treatment are not normally recordable (except if injury results in time off work).
Injuries that require treatment over and above first aid are OSHA recordable, for instance if somebody had a cut that required stitches.

Refer to the OSHA website that has the recording Rules:-
http://www.osha.gov/pls/...vel=1&p_part_number=1904
It is not simple, but essentially, it requires one to assess:-
1) Workrelatedness
2)Whether any of the General or Specific Recording Criteria apply to both injuries AND Illnesses.
The general criteria inclides:-
1) Death.
2) Days away from work--i.e lost time injury.
3)Restricted work or transfer to another job. 4)Medical treatment beyond first aid.
5)Loss of consciousness.
6) A significant injury or illness diagnosed by a physician or other licensed health care professional.
In assessing "Medical treatment beyond first aid", OSHA has prescribed waht constitutes First Aid--anything beyond this prescrpitive criteria is medical treatment!!
Refer to link below and schroll down until you get to the question, "What is "first aid" :-
