Posted By Seamus O Sullivan Hi everyone, Could someone please clarify the requirements for eye/face protection when working with abrasive wheels,ie angle grinder, con saw, bench grinder. My understanding is that all eye/face protection must conform to EN 166 impact B and not F, I can source goggles to EN 166 impact B, but would like to enquire about the face shield, am I incorrect in looking for these to conform to EN 166 inpact B, Regards Seamus

Posted By lewes The eye protection should be relative to the rotational speed of the wheel you are using. Medium energy impact –B (6mm ball at 120 m/sec) High energy impact – A (6mm ball at 190 m/sec) Your competent person who changes the wheels should be aware of this

Posted By Peter Hayes AN Other has only one chance using Eye protection, so inpact "B" goggles should really be the protection whilst using grinding equipment. I have seen so many eye injuries with people using low inpact glasses whilst grinding drilling etc. So where eye protection is required give the best, its too late after to say "I should have" Regards

Posted By Jonf The standard required is: B4 (B = impact, medium engegy - 120 M/S; and for the generation of dust = 4), under BSEN166. Hope this helps.

Posted By lewes Have a look at the wheels you are using, they will have a rotational speed on them in m/sec. As already been advised, B rated is the most common
