Posted By Bill Elliott Toma - be mindful that stairlifts are made and installed by others as well as Stannah. Do a Google search on "stairlift" and you will find a whole range of suppliers. Regards

Posted By Bob Shillabeer My wife has two stair lifts supplied and fitted by Stenna. One on many suppliers I know, but the quality and service was very good. We had a need to call them out to what I thought was a fault, they arrived the same day and took about ten seconds to reset the stair lift. That's about how good most of the suppliers are I thuink. But, shop around and see what prices you can get, they normally supply used lifts as well as new. Costs a bit though.

Posted By Richard Beales Toma My elderly parents have very recently had a stairlift installed by Acorn - it was an ex-showroom model, perfect condition, and the prompt supply and installation was around £2500, which seemed very reasonable. Minor problem later with remote control, fixed very quickly. There is also a maintenance contract which can be taken out if desired. I was impressed by this company, I think the URL is www.acorn.co.uk. Richard Beales

If you don't need to buy, check out some of the organisations who will rent stair lifts for a reasonable monthly cost. You pay a one off fee for the installation and removal, service is included.

Posted By Jonathan Breeze Toma,
If you are looking for comparative information between stairlift brands, then perhaps the Which? consumer website is better bet.
Posters may be able to help you with personal recommendations but that is not within the remit of this site.
Similarly, they may be able to provide information on the legislative maintenance requirements, but you will need to consider whether, the information is relevant in a domestic setting.

Posted By David A Cooper I am concerned that your son is overweight and would advise that you check the SWL of any stairlift that you purchase.
I have investigated a number of accidents with stairlifts in my time including some fatalities.
Also, some imports do not meet with BS requirements. Check what you are buying.

Posted By The toecap Perhaps you could get your overwieght son to walk up the stairs slowly and over time the excess weight will decrease with exercise. Thus saving the costs of the installation and the risk of having an accident on the stair lift.
