Hi

I’m looking to conduct a survey to ascertain employee’s perception and believe regarding Health and Safety.

I remember using something when I worked offshore, but I’m unable to remember how we got it or who commissioned it.

Could anyone point me in the right direction, I’m not looking for something that will take days to analyse just something simple and easy to use, something I can conduct on a sample of the workforce, so the company is aware of the employee’s perception regarding Health and Safety, and identify any issues.

Thanks

Hi

I think the HSE stopped doing / supporting their HSE Survey Tool some time ago. We (BSMS Inc) have set up an online service for doing these, so that companies can survey on a golabal basis.

When you do the survey, think carefully about the information you want to obtain (i.e why is knowledge on a particular topic useful to your company). Do not just copy from another company as not all the questions could be relevant to you.

Also how you write them and set up your responses can determine the answer. That is 'you always get the answer to the question you ask!' The order of responses also affects peoples actual responses.

So with a word to the wise, there is no such thing as a simple survey!

Best wishes
Dominic

Just by way of help, you may want to look at these two articles on safety climate surveys. On is a component analyses of safety climate given at an IOSH branch meeting a few years ago
( http://www.b-safe.net/articles/bsms1.pdf ) and the other one given in London for an IIR conference, which provides information on the practicalities involved with doing safety climate surveys
( http://www.b-safe.net/articles/bsms3.pdf ).

Research on the topic (http://www.b-safe.net/articles/bsms14.pdf ) show s that you should include something on safety training, as that is known to predict peoples actual levels of safety behaviour!!

Good luck
Dominic
