With regards to the above standard which refers to the Safety of Machinery - Electrical Equipment of Machines does anybody know the advised frequency of testing. We have the manufacureres certificate for proof of compliance for industrial machines but do not know how often the standard states that they should be retested.

The Standard is silent on that.
No surprise really, as with any item of work equipment the frequency of test/examination is entirely dependent on the conditions of use, environment etc.
The risk is yours, and it is for you and your competent person to determine a reasonable regime.

Hi John
the guidance to the PUWER Regs will help you. and assuming the machine runs on electricity then the EAWR and IEE Wiring Regs may also provide useful info.
Get them at HSE.gov.uk.

John,
As a member of the committee responsible for BS EN 60204, I'd like to endorse Ron's response earlier. The standard does not deal with frequency of testing. It states requirements that machines should comply with throughout their life cycle, and any need for retesting will depend on the kind of machine and conditions of use.
Just one thing I'd like to point out is that modifying machines to any significant extent can fall under the Supply of machinery (Safety) regulations, which have just been amended to reflect the new Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC. Demonstrating compliance with the new regs might well need a retest.
Pete
